International Conference 2020 IEEE International Conference on "Nanomaterials: Applications & Properties"
Like most conferences these days the 2020 IEEE International Conference on "Nanomaterials: Applications & Properties" (NAP-2020), hosted by Sumy State University and organized together with the IEEE Nanotechnology Council, was held online.
The five-day virtual event (Nov. 9-13) - one of the largest nanoconferences in Eastern Europe, held annually since 2011 - brought together a broad international community of scientists, engineers, and educators and provided a platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening existing collaborations and catalyzing new international partnerships.
There were more than 200 participants from 31 countries, including the USA, Japan, China, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Israel, Austria, Poland, South Korea, Canada, Singapore, and others. Representatives of Finland, the Philippines, and Serbia took part in the conference for the first time.
The NAP2020 Conference, chaired by the head of the department of nanoelectronics and surface modification Pogrebnjak A. D., was devoted to the most interesting aspects of modern Materials Science with the prime focus on nanoscale materials. Although nanoscience and nanotechnology are still in their infancy, this rapidly evolving field of research is quickly transforming almost all aspects of our everyday life. From the low power electronics and supercomputers, to advanced drugs and personalized medicine, from new industrial applications, and renewable energy to advanced transportation and clean air technologies, nanoscience is the foundation of many of the transformational discoveries in the decades to come.
The department of nanoelectronics and surface modification also took part in the conference.
Vyacheslav Perekrestov, Anna Kornyushchenko, Victoria Natalich and Stanislav Shevchenko took part in the report on "Formation of Zn/ZnO and Zn/ZnO/NiO Multilayer Porous Nanosystems for Potential Application as Electrodes in Li-ion Battaries".
Among the employees of the Department of Nanoelectronics were awarded:
- Kateryna Smyrnova (graduate student) for the best poster presentation;
- Vladimir Buranich (graduate student) for the best oral presentation.
International Conference 2019 IEEE 9th International Conference on "Nanomaterials: Applications & Properties"
From September 15 to September 20, 2019, the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology of Sumy State University and the IEEE Nanotechnology Council with the support of the IEEE Magnetics Society and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) held the IX International Conference "Nanomaterials: Applications & Properties" in the city of Odessa. Although nanoscience and nanotechnology are still in their infancy, this rapidly expanding area of research is rapidly transforming almost every aspect of our daily lives. Nanoscience is the cornerstone of many transformational breakthroughs in the coming years - from low-power electronics and supercomputers to state-of-the-art medicine and personalized medicine, from new industrial applications and renewable energy to advanced transportation and clean air technologies. The conference was able to bring together a large international community of scientists, engineers and professors who are already involved in determining the future and unceasingly accelerating their work with revolutionary technological and industrial progress. The conference was devoted to new topical problems of modern materials science: technologies of production and research of properties of bulk and film nanomaterials; creation of new nanomaterials, nanosystems and nanoparticles; the problem of existing methods of research of nanomaterials and methods of their overcoming; development of new energy-saving materials and lasers; development of theory and modeling of formation, evolution and self-organization of nanoscale systems; the study of magnetism. Two IEEE meetings and Workshop Horizon 2020 were held at the conference. In total, 190 scientists from more than 20 countries attended the conference. 15 Best Poster Writers Awarded with Gift - Free IEEE Membership Year. n addition to scientific disputes, the conference participants had the opportunity to travel the streets of Odessa, filled with grand history, and travel through the city's mysterious catacombs.
Student of the department of nanoelectronics is a winner of the All-Ukrainian contest of the student's scientific works
According to the results of the All-Ukrainian competition of the student's scientific works on the specialty "Material Science", which was held in the Kharkov National Automobile and Highway University in April 2018, a student of the department of nanoelectroincs of the Sumy State University Shakhova Iryna was awarded a second-degree diploma. For this competition the student was prepared by Pogrebnjak Alexander - the head of the department of nanoelectronics, Prof., D.Sc.
Two PhD candidates of the Department of Nanoelectronics have defended their doctoral theses under joint supervision
This year, there was a defense of two dissertations of the PhD candidates of the Department of Nanoelectronics completed under joint supervision.
Olexandr Pshyk - postgraduate candidate of the Department of Nanoelectronics of the Sumy State University, who had been studying under the joint supervision in Poland, received a degree of Doctor of Science in Physics. The defense of his dissertation on "Structural features and tribo-mechanical properties of TiAlBSiN nanocomposite coatings" was held in February at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Supervisor from Ukrainian side was Dr.Sc., Prof. Alexander Pogrebnjak, and Supervisor from Polish side was Dr. Habil., Prof. Stefan Yurga.
In April of this year, postgraduate candidate Yakushchenko Ivan defended the dissertation on the topic "Structural characteristics and physical-mechanical properties of multicomponent nitride coatings before and after ion implantation" in Sumy State University. Scientific supervisors of the applicant were Dr.Sc., Prof. Alexander Pogrebnjak (Sumy, Ukraine) and Dr.Sc., Prof. Yoshichiko Takeda (Tsukuba, Japan).
The project of scientists from the department of nanoelectronics became the winner in the grant competition of the Science & Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU)
Colleagues of the Department of Nanoelectronics of Sumy State University under the supervision of Professor Pogrebnjak A.D. have won the project of Science and Technology Center of Ukraine No. 6372 entitled “New principles and design of superhard nanocomposite coatings using first-principles calculation methods”. The research team consisted of 4 people with colleagues from Argonne National Laboratory (Chicago, USA), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (Livermore, USA), and Technical University of Munich (Munich, Germany). Among 29 submitted projects, only 5 of them were selected as winners (the funding of $ 50,000 will be provided by the EU and the USA, additional financial support will be provided by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine). The project duration is 2 years. Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science of NAS of Ukraine (Professor Ivashchenko V. I.) and V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Professor Beresnev V. M.) also participate in the project.
